The Government has introduced new legislation to reform planning committees and the way planning applications are considered by local authorities in England, whether they are decided by officers or planning committee. The attached slides Planning Committee Reform and National Scheme of Delegation Presentation explain the regulatory changes, which come into force from 31st October 2026.
The changes will mean that ward member call-in’s to Development Management Committee (DMC) will no longer be possible and parish/town council objections to major applications will not be able to trigger a referral to DMC.
If you have any queries about the changes please do send them to this email address at the local authority Partnerships.CommunityEngagementTeam@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
ideally by 30th October and they will collate and share with Planning colleagues.
